People assume that IT guys are weird, but honestly, they are not. You know the device you are using which have installed applications to make your life a whole lot easier? That is the result of multiple efforts, huge sacrifices, and hard work of an entire development team.
The developer, the tester, the maintenance guy, etc. Days and days of hard work. Only 20 days paid leave per year for that too, and you have to inform in advance. When on a project, you can’t go out with family and friends. All you do is sit before your computer and scratch your head for a solution.
A user would interact with the interface just for a few seconds or minutes and for that short span of time, developers strive to give a user the best experience possible.
If you are into programming because you want to make money, settle in your life and everything, then programming is a very dull thing. If one is doing it for fun though, then it is the coolest thing in the world.
As far as we have observed, programming is more addicting compared to any other drug. If you are a good coder and you have invented a new algorithm or software or anything, that’s awesome. You can show that to anyone in your family or friends, and they will naturally treat you as a cool guy.
It depends on the individual, but typically, a developer’s daily routine goes a little something like this during an average workday:
7:15 to 7:30 – Wake up and prepare for work
7:30 to 8:00 – Surf the net and have breakfast
8:00 to 9:00 – Leave for work, surf the internet some more, reach the office
9:00 to 13:15 – Developing a website as well as configuring IoT devices
13:15 to 14:00 – Lunch
14:00 to 18:00 – More programming (doing the same)
18:00 to 19:00 – Head home, surf the internet more
19:00 to 23:00 – Take a bath, surf the net some more, play a few computer games, watch YouTube until falling asleep
Is it boring? Sure, it can be. However, it depends:
It usually depends on the job they are doing:
- Few developers bounce from project to project, enjoying their work by each new challenge. Work is never boring.
- Few developers spend a lot of years moving and laying out columns around for endless MIS reports requested by the management. The majority of which are worthless but when the boss wants them, they get them. Work is as routine and as dull as combing your hair. The biggest challenge is trying to stimulate yourself to not fall asleep at work.
It depends on whether they love programming:
- A few developers enjoy the challenge and cannot imagine doing something else.
- A few programmers hate programming but fell into it because there were only developer jobs available. Boring? But they need to eat.
To pretty much sum it all up – the life of a developer is sitting and working in front of the computer for more or less 24 hours. Develop various types of applications, finish big projects, and have great relationships with their working team members as well.
